Silkroute to Health (SRH ) organizes health awareness and screening campaigns in the villages of Gilgit Baltistan .These campaigns are organized mainly by facilitating the healthcare professionals visiting or vacationing in their villages spend a day or two with their people providing them awareness and screening in their respective medical subject. Our organization provides medical supplies and equipment for the campaigns.
These campaigns not only provide opportunities for the professionals to connect to their people and contribute to their health and wellbeing but also they enhance population’s awareness about their health status and provide the information and motivation on healthy living.
During the campaign of 2014, our volunteers, led by Professor Mehboob Shah, visited hundreds of homes in different villages of central Hunza and conducted systematic health assessments in nutrition, hypertension, depression, diabetes and cardiac risk factors in the families.
Upon completion of household data collection, more than five hundred individuals having higher risk factors for diabetes and cardiac disease were invited to community and health centers and were screened for fasting blood sugar and complete lipid profile.
Health awareness sessions were held throughout the campaign at a number of community centers of the villages.
In July and August 20015, we plan to expand our campaign to more villages in Hunza as well as to the valleys of Nager. We aim to conduct screening for more than a thousand individuals in Hunza and Nager
